Think of them as a combination between an old-school slip, a boxer brief and a bike short: They give you coverage under short or too-sheer outfits, stop your inner thighs from trying to start a forest fire, and light smoothing with no VPL (the word “panties” weirds us out, too). Plus, the knit-in cotton-rich crotch means you can wear them without underwear if you want, eliminating the need for an extra layer.

Thigh Society shorts don’t compress you or suck you in like shapewear. Instead, they’re a lightweight, breathable, sweat-wicking essential you’ll reach for again and again.

These fit fine and the legs don't roll up like the shorter version (5" cooling is the other pair I bought), but ... there's nothing special here. They are lightweight material, but they don't hold anything in - I realize they aren't shapewear, but they offer NO shape at all - just let it all hang around. They are good at helping with the sweating under a dress, but because of the length I purchased, they're only good with long dresses. Next time, I'll just cut a pair of lightweight leggings off at the thighs.

My new bathing suit!

I don't like wearing regular bathing suits these days - my thighs are the worse for wear! I had the idea to wear these shorts with a long sleeveless top instead. It works perfectly! They are completely opaque and look great under a drapey top with a bra underneath. Now I'm not afraid to show up on the beach. I have six or seven pairs in various colors, and I wear them all summer with shorts, skirts, and at home with nothing else. Cool and comfortable, and I have never had a snag. I have learned what size fits perfectly and I stick with that (2 XL)

Not Too Heavy or Constricting

As the Thigh Society ads proclaim, their "The Cooling" shorts are not too thick/ heavy. I went with the 9" black version to wear under a dress for my brother's wedding. They stayed in place (no rolling or riding up) and didn't make me feel like I was wearing an extra layer. Plus, as promised, they kept my thighs from chafing as I did a lot of walking that afternoon during all the festivities. The reason I gave these 4 stars and not 5 is that, inspite of following the sizing chart, I found they ran a tiny bit small, the color I hoped to get (lilac) was not in stock, and they were a bit on the pricy side (I only needed 1 pair as I rarely wear dresses/skirts) so I didn't qualify for any savings/deals... I don't appreciate online companies that make you buy multiples just to save a few dollars... especially when it's an item that you often don't need multiples of. All in all, I would recommend for anyone, who is looking for something to prevent thigh chafing, as they were better quality and more comfortable than a previous pair I had purchased a couple of years ago from Penningtons.
