Here’s Why You Need Moisture Wicking Underwear

We’re inching towards the warmest days of the year, which also happen to be the sweatiest. Our butts and thighs can get especially damp on hot days, and that’s when butt sweat (aka swamp ass) usually occurs. One easy way to counteract excess sweating in those areas is wearing moisture-wicking underwear. Here’s what you need to know about these undergarments, from the top materials to when to best wear them.

What is moisture-wicking underwear?

Moisture-wicking underwear is specially designed to manage and regulate moisture buildup on skin. Typically made with high-tech synthetic or blended fabrics, they remove moisture from the skin and evaporate into the air. These undergarments promote enhanced breathability and keep us dry throughout the day. Moisture-wicking underwear is super useful in hot and humid environments and for those of us who partake in high intensity activities. Aside from making you feel less sweaty, they also help prevent chafing, which is often caused by sweaty skin rubbing together. They’re usually very comfortable, antibacterial and odor-regulating, too.

Best Moisture-Wicking Underwear

We’ve come a long way from when underwear was either cotton or lace, and that was it. Now we have high-tech fabrics and an array of lengths and styles to choose from. The best moisture-wicking underwear might be very specific to your lifestyle.

Here at Thigh Society, we produce anti-chafing shorts with advanced materials that allow them to easily double as moisture-wicking underwear. You can wear our slip shorts under a variety of clothing or just on their own, depending on which pair you get. Check out our underwear suggestions below:

1. Cooling Summer Shorts

Our Cooling shorts were made for warm weather and can also act as moisture-wicking underwear on a hot day. They’re made with Sensil® Breeze nylon, which can cool the body by up to one degree, and removes any excess sweat from your skin and evaporates it into the air. The shorts range in length from 5, 7, 9 and 12 inches, hitting the top or bottom of your thigh so you can wear them as boy shorts or biker shorts with a long tee. While a lot of people wear our slip shorts with underwear underneath, you can also go commando in them because they all have a knit-in cotton crotch. Get rid of the layer that will make your behind feel swampy and embrace our Cooling shorts.

2. Moisture-Wicking Base Layer

Let’s talk about moisture-wicking underwear in colder weather where you might be doing activities like skiing, snowboarding or hiking. While the temps are colder, snow or ski pants are prime butt sweat zones, especially after some rigorous hours on the slopes or building snowmen. You don’t want to arrive at lunch or the après ski feeling like the inside of your pants is soaking. That’s why it’s important to wear a moisture-wicking layer underneath your activewear. Our buttery-soft, sweat-wicking Staple shorts are ideal for that. You can also wear them solo to replace your regular undergarments when you want something that doesn’t roll up or move around under your outdoor pants. Anyone who’s ever had a mountaintop inadvertent wedgie will tell you they’re the worst and practically non-removable, so skip them all together.

3. Lounging at Home

After wearing panties and thongs all week during work days, you may want to take a break from them all together for the weekend — and that’s your prerogative! Go commando with our Cotton shorts, which are made from super-soft Pima cotton and antibacterial Modal fabric. Just as moisture-wicking as our Cooling shorts, they’ll wick excess sweat should you decide to do some tidying up around the house, cook yourself a meal or are a sweaty sleeper. They stay put during all activities and keep you sweat-free and relaxed in your home. There’s no rolling or pinching, making them the comfiest undergarments to lounge in.
